Brian W. Wu, M.D., Ph.D., M.N.M., joined Executive Mental Health (EMH) in 2021 to serve as the Director of Psychiatric Services. He collaborates with key management staff, including the Chief Clinical Officer, Director of Operations, and the Liaison Manager to create a clinician-centered “best practices” to facilitate growth and retention of psychiatry and nurse practitioner staff.
Dr. Wu is a general, adult psychiatrist who has a special interest in helping people become unstuck from symptoms that may block living in full alignment with their values or aspirations. He works with patients who have various psychiatric illnesses. His approach to treatment is influenced by principles from Intense Short Term Dynamic Psychotherapy (ISTDP) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), which combine using emotions to help drive action towards values. Dr. Wu has been licensed to practice in the State of California since 2018 and also has a telemedicine license in the State of New Mexico since 2020.
Dr. Wu graduated magna cum laude from the University of Maryland with a Bachelor of Science in in Physiology and Neurobiology. He then attended the M.D./Ph.D. Program at the Keck School of Medicine of USC, earning his Ph.D. in Integrative Biology and Disease in 2015 and his M.D. in 2017. He completed his residency training in the psychiatry program at the LAC+USC Medical Center. As a Provost's Post-Doctoral Scholar, he obtained a Master of Science in Narrative Medicine (M.N.M.) at Keck School of Medicine of USC during his last year of residency.
Dr. Wu performed several clinical trials in rehabilitation medicine and preventive care. He has authored over 40 publications (among which, 12 first-author publications and one book chapter), presented over 10 oral presentations and over 15 poster presentations at regional and national meetings. He received over $150,000 in grants and scholarships including two grants from the Quality Improvement and Patient Care Funds by the Committee of Interns and Residents, Resident Recognition Award from the American Psychiatric Association, and NIH TL1 pre-doctoral fellowship.
Dr. Wu is interested in sports, fitness, and wellness and loves his family dearly.
