Job Description

Clinical Psychologists: Clinical psychologists provide psychological assessment and psychotherapy services to acute hospitals, skilled nursing, assisted living facilities, and/or outpatient clinics in their assigned regions. Primary duties including completion of initial psychological evaluations, psychotherapy, and treatment recommendations for facility staff. Comprehensive on-site training and continual support are provided.

Those who are a good fit for this position enjoy a balance between working largely independently in the field while also having the background support of the office staff and ongoing clinical support from well-trained supervisors. EMH is a relatively small, but rapidly growing company. We value a team approach to delivering quality mental health services to a diverse and underserved population residing in skilled nursing facilities (as well as other levels of care). Given our typical setting and patient population, this position is not a good fit for someone who is only interested in 55-minute outpatient therapy. Our psychologists are hard-working, flexible, and adept at understanding how to work within the patient’s environment. We communicate with staff in a collegial way to improve patients’ quality of life.

  • • Doctoral degree (PhD, PsyD) in Clinical Psychology (required)
  • • Current and valid California state licensure as a Psychologist (required)
  • • Medicare Provider eligibility (required)
  • • Strong understanding of the biopsychosocial model and one or more years of experience in a geriatric, residential, and/or behavioral health setting (strongly recommended)
  • • Experience in treating patients with diverse and complex issues (cognitive, physical, psychiatric) and/or a strong interest in learning best practices to meet the varying needs to these populations (strongly recommended)
  • • Previous experience completing documentation indicating medical necessity (strongly recommended)
  • • Willingness to be placed on various 3rd party insurer panels (required)

Position Responsibilities/Standards (include but are not limited to):

  • • Flexibility in clinical approach and work hours to accommodate the patient population as well as to meet productivity goals and deadlines. Clinicians need to be able to use evidence-based interventions and deliver them using a person-centered approach.
  • • Proficiency in assessing and documenting risk appropriately, as well as the ability to identify potential issues related to mandated reporting. Consultation with supervisors is available and encouraged.
  • • Proficiency in computer skills, ability to complete progress notes efficiently and make use of computer tools to remain organized.
  • • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to establish and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues, patients, other specialty disciplines, and facility staff.
  • • Willingness to assume additional clerical or clinical duties as requested or needed to ensure that normal organization operations are sustained and to ensure compliance with facility state standards in preparation for survey.
  • • Ability to manage daily schedules, review and disposition consults, monitor appointment utilization and patient access to care, conduct mandatory clinical training.
  • • Ability to communicate with supervisors and Community Liaisons to ensure productivity, i.e., caseloads, referral process, scheduling, interface with facilities and EMH staff.
  • • Ability to work independently and take ownership of responsibilities. Excellent insight and judgement skills, ability to take initiative in order to problem-solve issues and seek out clinical consultation when appropriate.
  • • Interest in learning different models of care. Openness to constructive feedback and ability to implement feedback in a collaborative and timely manner.

Physical Demands:
  • • Able to push, pull, lift up to 35lbs on an intermittent basis; able to bend, stoop, sit, stand and walk without restrictions.
  • • Clinicians travel to assigned facilities as part of their role. While efforts are made to minimize commutes, physically they will need to be able to withstand potentially long commutes in the car. Clinicians will also be responsible for reliable source of transportation to and from sites.
